Almost everything here is a convention rather than a rule. The figures are typical, not fixed, and nearly all of them are negotiable. Statutory rates, meaning mechanicals and the SoundExchange splits, are real law and current as of 2026; the rest is market practice that shifts with genre, territory, and leverage. Percentages are deliberately rounded so the shape of the split stays legible.
This page is educational. It is not legal, financial, or tax advice, and reading it creates no professional relationship of any kind. Every deal turns on its own wording, and the same percentage can mean very different things depending on what it is a percentage of. Before you sign anything, have a music lawyer read the actual contract.
